All eyes are on feasting on St James this week, with the advance of Martin Sheen's latest movie featuring the world famous UNESCO Camino de Santiago trail and the jubilee year celebration of St James falling this coming Sunday.
This year, 2010, will see a record number of nearly 5 million people walking the world famous trek of El Camino de Santiago in Northern Spain. The leading camino specialists, Follow the Camino, have made sure that you won't miss out on any of the festivities thanks to the Camino in Dublin event they have organised to take place this coming Sunday, 25th July.
Follow The Camino and the Spanish Tourist Board bring this exciting event to Trinity College Dublin on the theme of 'The Irish and The Camino de Santiago' on July 25th for only €13. Limited tickets are available so book now to avoid disappointment
St James' Dublin Event Itinerary:
Part 1 - Walk through Medieval Dublin - 1pm to 3pm
Guided walk in Dublin along the medieval pilgrimage route with Robert Poynton. Starting at 1pm from St James' Church and finishing at Trinity College, this walk is open to everyone, not just those attending the conference. Likewise, those attending the conference do not have to take part in the walk.
Part 2 - Conference - 3pm to 6pm
Hamilton Conference Centre, Registration from 2:30pm, conference starts at 3:30pm. Three Speakers from Ireland, Scotland and Spain will highlight the links between the Irish and this 1000 year old pilgrimage route. The featured speakers are:
- Eamonn McEneaney, Director, Waterford Museum of Treasures - 'Pilgrimages of a 15th Century Mayor of Waterford'
- Colm Bambury, Adventurer - 'Sailing from Dingle to A Coruña in the 19th Century Vessel, Jeanie Johnston'
- Dr. David Clark, Senior Lecturer in English Philology, University of A Coruña - 'The English Camino and Galicia Today'
Part 3 - Reception/Buffet - 6pm to 8pm
Informal reception with complimentary sandwiches and a special Galician wine tasting with four Irish wine importers who will be promoting 24 different wines.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to speak with staff from Follow The Camino and the Spanish Tourist Board.
