‘2015 is the year of native Facebook video’ – if you haven’t heard this through the grapevine yet then where have you been hiding?
In 2014 experts noted that direct video uploads to Facebook had overtaken the number of direct video uploads to YouTube. Fast forward to 2015 and the year-on-year statistics for Facebook video are, quite frankly, mind blowing. Considering Facebook uses its own algorithm, it makes sense that Facebook videos will be pushed up the ranks and shown more to users than YouTube videos are.
It is important to remember though that YouTube does still have a place in the video world. Why? YouTube was, and still is, the second largest search engine in the world, with over 300 hours of video content uploaded every minute. Users on Facebook do not search for video, they discover it. Two very different uses which set these two social tools worlds apart.
