The Ireland Portugal Business Network (IPBN) is launching a four-part-series of webinars showcasing opportunities to live, retire, and work in the Algarve.
The ‘Algarve Living’ series will focus on five key themes throughout the series: lifestyle, business, finance, and property and living – beginning with a webinar on January 28th, focusing on lifestyle and introducing the rest of the series.
IPBN chair Aoife Healy says the series is designed for both Irish companies looking to enter the Algarve and Irish individuals considering living, remote working, or retiring in the region.
“The IPBN is pleased to present our ‘Algarve Living’ series providing one of the most comprehensive guides to the region ever delivered,” she said. “We will start with a series of four webinars with first, an introduction to life in the Algarve, continuing with three webinars around our five major themes. All sessions will crucially include first-hand accounts and input from IPBN members providing both personal experience and expert advice about living and working in the region”.

The ‘Algarve Living’ series will provide an in-depth look into lifestyle opportunities exploring outdoor activities, golf, wellness, gastronomy, and winery sectors. The series will involve input from key business players across the region including the fast-emerging Algarve Tech Hub and will explore tax, pensions, legal requirements, and wealth management with detailed advice on the NHR (Non-Habitual Residents) Scheme and exiting the Irish tax system.
Further attention will be devoted to property & living with real estate experts and developers showcasing a multitude of residential options. Other key aspects including healthcare, education and security will take centre stage, with the region’s international schools, universities and private hospitals providing input.
“The IPBN has grown rapidly in recent years and this series will provide a platform for our members to share their extensive knowledge and expertise, as well as contacts and connections,” said Aoife. “Essentially, our network offers a complete support structure for anyone looking to make the transition from Ireland to the Algarve.
“On a broader level, Ireland and Portugal share many similarities from our population size and GDP to key growth markets such as IT, renewable energy, agriculture and tourism. As nations we are natural partners with a close bond, which is clearly demonstrated through growing bi-lateral trade, and increasingly large Irish diaspora in Portugal.”
The ‘Algarve Living’ series has the support of Visit Portugal in Dublin, AICEP Portugal Global and the Portuguese Embassy in Dublin.

Aoife Healy – Chair of the IPBN Board of Directors
Aoife moved with her family to Lisbon in 2015 and was a founding member of the Ireland Portugal Business Network in 2016, a volunteer led organisation promoting economic activity between Ireland and Portugal. She currently holds the role of Chair, overseeing the growth and strategic direction of the network into being one of the key organisations that helps companies do business between Ireland and Portugal.
In her day job, Aoife is founding partner of Pathway Consulting, which specialises in giving owners of new and early start-ups strategies and tools to make their business successful. Previously she has run her own hospitality business and had senior roles in Customer Services Management for multi-national telecoms companies and in Project Engineering for an SME. Always an active volunteer, she has previously Chaired Howth Tourism and the Dublin Bay Prawn Festival, been a Board Member of the Restaurant Association of Ireland and the Advisory Board of SafeFood.
Sharon Farrell – Chair of the IPBN Algarve committee
Sharon has worked in financial services since graduating from university and joined Blevins Franks with 26 years’ experience in the provision of financial planning and advice. Starting as a financial consultant with Prudential, she became an area manager with Pearl Assurance before setting up her own independent financial advice business in 1999.
Having enjoyed visiting the Algarve for over twenty years, she decided to sell her company and make a permanent move, joining the local Blevins Franks team in April 2019. Sharon is registered with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the UK and is a Member of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) and the Personal Finance Society (PFS).
Sharon has been Chair of the IPBN Algarve committee since Sep 2019, managing the network in the Algarve and helping companies in the region developing their business with Ireland.
