Portugal has been ranked as the best country in the world for remote work by travel metasearch site Momondo. The country’s dedicated digital nomad visa, the high level of English among its population, its political stability, low violence, and great climate are just some of the factors that placed Portugal at the top of Momondo’s Travel Work Index, revealing the best countries in the world to work and travel in.
Momondo, managed by KAYAK, part of Booking Holdings Inc, analysed 111 countries as part of this research, focusing on remote working conditions and opportunities for travel experiences, through a total of 22 factors, with scoring from zero to 100. Portugal achieved a final score of 100, ranking the #1 country for remote work.
Just behind Portugal is Spain, followed by Romania, Mauritius and Japan, completing the top five best countries for digital nomads.
The COVID-19 pandemic forced many employees to adopt telework, and with that, a significant number of people began to embrace the idea of balancing their job with discovering a new country, leading to a huge rise in digital nomads across the world.
