Long, sunny days and refreshing swims on the beach are waiting for you in the archipelago this Easter.
Relax in crystal clear waters
April is the perfect month to enjoy the tranquil beaches of the Canary Islands. Choose from the crystal clear waters of Caletón Blanco in Lanzarote, the spectacular Puertito de Lobos only 20 minutes by boat from Fuerteventura or Las Conchas beach in La Graciosa.
Natural pools, in addition to the ocean’s crystal pure waters, can be found all around the islands. The real natural Jacuzzis of Charco Azul in La Palma, Charco del Conde in La Gomera, and La Maceta in El Hierro are not to be missed.
Observe cetaceans
The Canary Islands are one of the best places in the world to see whales and dolphins in their natural habitat. From sperm whales and pilot whales to six distinct kinds of dolphins, the archipelago serves as a transit corridor for 23 different species. Tropical dark grey whales, which are distinguished by their three prominent fins, yellowish-white belly, and elevated dorsal fin, are best observed in April.
Taste the best cheeses
In Fuerteventura, you can tour cheese factories and sample delicious delicacies created from the milk of native goat breeds. The Majorero goat cheese was the first in Spain to be awarded the prized Denomination of Origin. Its outstanding flavour has been acknowledged internationally, winning multiple awards.
Go scuba diving in La Restinga
For those who enjoy diving, this small fishing community near El Hierro’s Mar de las Calmas Marine Reserve is a must-see. This welcoming spot offers excellent scuba diving conditions as well as all of the essential conveniences for a great adventure. Even if diving isn’t your thing, a visit to La Restinga is an essential part of any tour of El Hierro. The little cove boasts crystal clear, tranquil waters that are ideal for sunbathing and swimming.
Dive into nature
Between beaches and volcanoes, the Canary Islands’ spectacular laurel forests are some of the most amazing and mystical natural settings. These include Tenerife’s Anaga and La Gomera’s Garajonay National Park, which is a World Heritage Site and one of the world’s most valuable natural treasures. Garajonay is home to one of the best preserved and largest specimens of laurel forest, a group of plant species that was nearly extinct millions of years ago.
Toast terrific wine in La Geria
There are vineyards in La Geria that are unique and cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Although Lanzarote has several wine-growing regions, La Geria is likely the most impressive.
La Geria produces exceptional Denomination of Origin wines. Visitors to the vines growing in the lava fields have the opportunity to sample excellent “vino” while taking in the breathtaking scenery.
Shop at the best markets
Teror is known for its delectable chorizo sausage. Every Sunday, a local market bustles with activity, selling everything from vegetables and fruit to meats and sausages, cheeses, apparel of all types, costume jewellery, flowers, toys, handicrafts, and religious items. On a Sunday morning in Gran Canaria, Terror is an excellent place to stop and get a souvenir of your journey.
Gaze at the stars
The Canary Islands have been recognised as having the clearest skies in Europe. In fact, the archipelago is regarded as one of the world’s top three locations for astronomy. Stars and constellations can be clearly seen from anywhere on the islands. In addition, the El Roque de Los Muchachos Astrophysical Observatory and the Teide Observatory, both on La Palma and Tenerife, are two of the world’s most prominent international observatories.
