Portugal is set to become a new destination for medical tourism thanks to a recently launched initiative, The Medical Tourism in Portugal, bringing together the country’s healthcare industry and state trade and tourism agencies.
The Medical Tourism in Portugal portal will offer specialised services in medical fields such as cardiology, dermatology, oncology, rehabilitation, plastic surgery, ear, nose and throat medicine and orthopaedics.
Described as a partnership between Health Cluster Portugal, tourism body Turismo de Portugal, foreign trade agency Agência para o Investimento e Comércio Externo de Portugal (AICEP), and health industry association Associação Portuguesa de Hospitalização Privada (APHP), the Medical Tourism in Portugal portal aims to drive sales of €100 million ($103 million) by 2025.
Hospital groups such as CUF, Luz Saúde and Lusíadas Saúde will also be involved in the initiative.
Portugal has a top-quality, competitive healthcare system with state-of-the-art equipment and technological solutions, and a modern hospital network, staffed by highly qualified professionals. Portugal’s health services are regularly assessed by independent bodies and there are more and more internationally accredited hospitals and clinics that attest to the quality of care provided.
Portuguese healthcare offers an excellent value-for-money alternative for many people, and the medical and rehabilitation care, kindness, climate, direct contact with nature and Portuguese hospitality make Portugal a top destination for medical tourism.
