Portugal’s Wine Tourism Action Plan
Identified as a primary strategic asset to Portugal, wine tourism attracts highly qualified tourists with high purchasing power, allowing for multiple attraction anchors throughout the country year-round, thus contributing to territorial cohesion.
Aiming to position Portugal as one of the top destinations in wine tourism, Visit Portugal developed Portugal’s Wine Tourism Action Plan which will contribute to the enhancement of wine tourism, wine itself, and will hugely contribute to creating more value and employment in these regions.
Within this plan, the digital campaign “Wine Pairs with Portugal” was launched in seven markets. In 2020 alone, this campaign reached over 18 million people.
Today, Visit Portugal launches the digital platform www.portuguesewinetourism.com, developed in partnership with the Regional Tourism Promotion Agencies and companies, where wine is paired with different tourism experiences, from Art and Architecture to Adventure, Gastronomy, and Wellness, just to name a few. The website will also feature local tips from experts and influencers, and information about events in each region of Portugal. Getting to know Portugal through its wines is an authentic and original way to embrace the culture of the country.
With over 190 thousand hectares of vineyards, 31 Protected Designations of Origin, 14 Geographical Indications and over 500 private players in this segment, Portugal intends to position itself as a world reference destination in Wine Tourism.
