The 27th European Gala Ceremony of the World Travel Awards took place virtually, in true 2020 style, on Monday, 2nd November. During the evening, Portugal were delighted to win 27 European awards, including Europe’s Leading Destination 2020, for the fourth consecutive year.
Other awards include, the Madeira Islands announced as Europe’s Leading Island Destination 2020, for the fifth year in a row, and the Algarve named Europe’s Leading Beach Destination 2020, for the third year in a row. Azores walked away as Europe’s Leading Adventure Tourism Destination 2020, Porto won Europe’s Leading City Break Destination 2020, while Lisbon was announced Europe’s Leading Cruise Destination 2020 and Turismo de Lisboa was awarded Europe’s Leading City Tourist Board 2020.
Established in 1993, the World Travel Awards acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries. The nominees are selected on a worldwide scale by thousands of industry sector professionals who choose their favourites every year.
