Yesterday evening in a ceremony held at the Palau de les Arts, in Valencia, Spain, Michelin announced the Michelin stars and Bib Gourmands 2022 for Spain and Portugal. Portugal has 5 new restaurants with 1 Michelin star, making now a total of 40 stars awarded to 33 restaurants across the country.
Two new stars traveled to the Algarve, to the restaurants Al Sud by Chef Louis Angels, the new fine dining restaurant at the Palmares Resort in the western Algarve, and A Ver Tavira by Chef Luís Brito, located in the town of Tavira. In Alentejo, Esporão by Chef Carlos Teixeira at the winery of the same name in Reguengos de Monsaraz, in Lisbon, Cura by Chef Pedro Pena Bastos at the Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisboa, and finally in Porto at Vila Foz Restaurant by Chef Arnaldo Azevedo in the Vila Foz Hotel.
For the first time in Portugal, 2 restaurants also receive a Michelin Green Star; Chef Carlos Teixeira at Herdae do Esporão Restaurant in Alentejo, and Chef Benoît Sinthon of Il Gallo d’Oro in Funchal, Madeira. The Michelin Green Star honours the remarkable commitments of these establishments towards sustainable gastronomy, coupled with a strong culinary identity, to provide particularly inspiring restaurant experiences.
All previous two- and one-star designees remain the same for 2022. The full list of Portugal’s Michelin Star restaurants can be found here.
